Of course, she is referring to a performance piece she did online in collaboration with another artist, Constantine, but so mysterious and surreal a being is Salvia that she could easily be talking about real life. “The idea is that aliens or extraterrestrial angels came down to earth and abducted me to consensually plant an alien egg inside my hole, and for me to give birth to her on earth.” Growing up in a tiny village in North Wales, Salvia would often escape into the fantasy worlds she created in her head. It is these fantasy worlds we see manifested now on her Instagram; an intoxicating feed of distorted Little Bo Peeps, caged mermaids and strange demonic creatures. Here, Salvia invites us into her beige-hued world of alien glamour in a special shoot for Dazed Beauty. “For this shoot I wanted to explore different ways that fashion, gender and procreation could evolve in the future,” she explains. “I did this in a way that is fantastical and theatrical but also keeps some of the stark reality that we can all recognise from our own lives to remind us that these things can be real and possible. I think that the way technology is and will continue to impact evolution can be frightening but also beautiful and positive.” Courtesy SalviaCourtesy SalviaCourtesy SalviaCourtesy SalviaCourtesy SalviaEscape the algorithm!
