Because my beauty is one of my powers in a world that operates on pretty privilege.” Described by Dazed as “this generation’s agony aunt,” Chidera uses her online platform to encourage young women to enjoy and celebrate being by themselves, and to feel empowered and intelligent. “I believe every single person has the power to change something pivotal about their life,” she says. “I’ve chosen writing and speaking because I want to encourage people to change their own realities.” Preaching self love and body positivity, Chidera is the mastermind behind the #saggyboobsmatter movement – a viral campaign dedicated to challenging the stigma surrounding saggy boobs – and has also spoken out about issues such as hair loss, informed by her personal experiences with traction alopecia. As well as a radio show, blog, BBC documentary and large Instagram following, Chidera released her debut book What a Time to be Alone earlier this year, which incidently became a Sunday Times Bestseller within a few days of publication. Add to this a collaboration with Adidas, her very own fashion label called Collusion Studios, plans to dominate television, topple the patriarchy and possibly even rule the world, and it’s clear why we’re all so enamoured by her. So, what three beauty products are in your bag right this second?Fenty Beauty ‘Sinnamon’ stick highlighter, Fenty Beauty ‘Gloss Bomb’ lip gloss, Too Faced ‘Better Than Sex’ Mascara. And what’s your earliest beauty related memory?I used to put hair gel on my eyebrows then pinch them into shape because I wasn’t allowed to pluck them let alone wear makeup! Describe your beauty aesthetic in three words.Sexy, classy, bold. What about your favourite smell?Wet acrylic powder in the nail shop. It excites the few brain cells I have left. Sometimes, I walk extra slowly when I pass the nail shop just so I can really take it in. Naughty, I know. Which fictional character do you most relate to and why?Miss Havisham. We love a legend who responds to patriarchy with the same energy it uses. Who is your beauty icon of all time?Rihanna at the 2014 CFDA Awards. Her entire body was covered in Swarovski crystals. Her makeup was flawless. Her boobs looked righteous. Unforgettable. Are you optimistic about the future?Yes, because I’m creating it right now. A friend once exclaimed that when he dies he wants 'Weeping virgins carved from marble to be placed in a circle around his grave'. What would your ideal tombstone look like?I don’t want a tombstone. I want a tree. More life. You have to donate a feature/limb of your body to an icon of yours. You get nothing in return. What feature/limb do you give and why?I’ll give my heart to Frank Ocean. He’s my husband in my mind so it makes sense anyway. You have to replace your body with that of an animal or a mythological creature. What do you go for and why?Medusa. I don’t want to interact with men.
