Compared to previous clip, it’s about 20 seconds longer with some never-before-seen footage from the sequel to the 1996 film. “Choose watching history repeat itself,” says Renton (Ewan McGregor) in the updated version of the original Danny Boyle production’s most quoted phrase. Speaking to Dazed, Trainspotting writer Irvine Welsh said: “(The characters are) all at pretty different places in their life and have responded to the last twenty years in different ways.” Welsh has previously said that the gang find a “very innovative” way to get into the porn business, leading into the storyline of his novel sequel Porno. He also told NME: “It has managed to take the most dynamic elements of the (Trainspotting) book and Porno, but also look forward to how it can be contemporary and present day… In some ways, I think it’s a better movie (than Trainspotting)… They have become such iconic characters and this is going to cement that status even more.” T2: Trainspotting will be released on January 27 in the UK, February 2 in Australia and February 3 in the US.
