The heavily hyped film, which was first announced over 18 months ago, is a big budget adaptation of the French 1960s comic Valerian and Laureline. It stars Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan as two time-travelling government agents who are sent to investigate a galactic empire that’s been threatened with extinction. Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke and Rihanna also feature in the film, with footage of the latter in character premiering earlier this morning. “Our mission for the teaser was very simple,” Besson told Entertainment Weekly. “We said, ‘It’s not about the story. Today, let’s introduce the two protagonists, Valerian and Laureline, and let’s give the audience a flavour of the universe. Let’s give an ambience, let’s give a colour.” Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets opens July 21, 2017. Escape the algorithm!
