Rumours have been swirling around the spin-off film of the 1998 classic The Big Lebowski since it was announced in August – and though it’s Coen Brother-less, John Turturro is making a comeback in his role as resident cult creep Jesus Quintana. And the first image from the project has been released.
Going Places, also directed and written by Turturro, sees him reprise his role as The Jesus, or Jesus Quintana, who’s the big shot bowler in The Big Lebowski. It’s inspired by Les Valseuses (‘the testicles’), a 1974 French movie, and also sees Audrey Tautou, Susan Sarandon, Sonia Braga and Bobby Cannavale join the roster.
The film is set to tell the story of a woman who is looking to experience her first orgasm, which is where Quintana and his thieving partner Petey come in.
As the official synopsis reads: “John Turturro plays Jesus Quintana in Going Places, a film about a trio of misfits whose irreverent, sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story as their spontaneous and flippant attitude towards the past or future backfires time and again, even as they inadvertently perform good deeds.
“When they make enemies with a gun-toting hairdresser, their journey becomes one of constant escape from the law, from society and from the hairdresser, all while the bonds of their outsider family strengthen.”
The first image released from the film's set shows Quintana in his memorable purple, residing in the hallowed bowling alley.
Jeff Bridges is said to be making a special cameo in the film in his iconic role as “The Dude”. It’ll be a while until we see the film, which currently has no studio or distributor, but remember: nobody fucks with the Jesus.
