Up to this point only clips of the Tribeca film festival hit had been dropped, showing Franco and Keegan as struggling porn producers at a time when YouTube and social media was in its infant stages, and porn was stuck behind paywalls. Directed by Justin Kelly, King Cobra sees Franco and Allen face off with Christian Slater, who plays the closeted mogul behind the gay erotica powerhouse Cobra Video. When the Viper Boyz (Franco and Allen) want a piece of new talent and Stephen’s (Slater) porno protégée Brent Corrigan, played by Garrett Clayton, things get lusty and deadly. The film is based on the true story of the murder of porn producer Bryan Kocis, who was killed in 2007 by two escorts. Franco and director Justin Kelly previously worked together on I Am Michael, where Franco played a gay rights activist who renounced his sexuality to become a conservative pastor. Billed as a “part delirious, tabloid-shocker satire, part American tragedy”, the film also sees Molly Ringwald and Alicia Silverstone co-star. King Cobra will be released in cinemas October 21.
