Centred on the real-life murder of Cobra Video producer Bryan Kocis, the drama offers a look inside the LGBT porn scene of the 00s. It also sees Franco carry on his ‘gay obsession’; with the actor taking on the super-camp role of a “cash-strapped” porn producer. “Offended by his paltry paycheck, Lockhart falls out with the owner, director, and producer Bryan Kocis (Christian Slater) of the label that made his famous Cobra video,” reads the official synopsis. “When the newly minted sex symbol attracts the attentions of a cash-strapped pair of rival producers and performers (James Franco and Keegan Allen) an all out porn turf war ensues.” The first preview clip of the film dropped last week, with the second premiering on Deadline on Friday. This one – which can be seen above – shows Franco and Allen getting seriously sweaty during a gym workout. In a recent interview with The Verge, director Justin Kelly opened up about the film’s intense gay sex scenes; stating that the actors often took things “further” than the script. “We wanted to make it as unapologetic as possible,” he shared. “I didn’t have a desire to shock – it’s a part of the story. Myself and the actors discussed from day one that you can’t shy away.” A general release date for the film – which also stars Molly Ringwald and Alicia Silverstone – has yet to be announced.
