Arts+CultureNewsBreaking Bad fans are throwing pizza on an old woman's houseVince Gilligan wants them to stopShareLink copied ✔️March 12, 2015Arts+CultureNewsTextThomas Gorton Do you remember that scene for Breaking Bad when Walt, after another failed attempt to reconcile things with Skyler, leaves the house, with enormous pizza-for-two in his hands and throws it on the roof in a fit of rage? It's not a particularly standout moment from the show (nor is it a spoiler), but obsessive fans have started throwing pizzas on the roof of the Walter White residence in Albuquerque. It might not be such a big deal if old people didn't live there, but it's become such a huge issue for the elderly couple who've lived in the house for 41 years, that they've complained to the show's creator Vince Gilligan. Presumably they're sick of having to get the ladder out to scrape margheritas off the tiles. In a podcast dedicated to Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spinoff show, Gilligan begins the show by saying, "I'm opening with a bit of a downer. The Walter White house is a bit of a tourist attraction and normally the people who live there are fine with people stopping by to have their picture taken outside the house. But we're hearing from the elderly couple who live there, who are two of the nicest people ever, that people are wandering onto her property, being rude to her and throwing pizzas on her roof. Let me tell ya, there is nothing original, funny, or cool about throwing pizzas on the roof. It’s just not funny. It’s been done before. You’re not the first. She's the nicest lady in the world." Obsessive fans are notorious for incorporating elements of their favourite shows into real, whether it's people who love tragi-comedy The Room throwing spoons at the screen, or Home Alone fans who have "Keep the change you filthy animal" as their one and only catchphrase. However, this display of fandom is ruining an old woman's life. So if you're taking trips out to Albuquerque to chuck twelve-inches onto a roof, give it a break, bitch. Liked this?
