Dario Argento and Iggy Pop are crowdfunding their latest project together: a Christmas film about serial killers. The iconic horror director has cast Iggy as the lead role in The Sandman, which sees the latter play a "masked killer who murders his victims with a lethally jagged melon spoon".
"I'm sick of these Christmas films about beauty, snowflakes and sleds pulled by reindeer," Argento said about the project. "I'd rather have a Christmas movie where there is strength, violence and horror."
The Suspiria director is looking for $250,000 via the crowdfunding site IndieGogo, with contributors receiving rewards like the first ten pages of the script or a role in the film as victim of Iggy Pop himself.
"I was thrilled to read the script, because I recognized right away, this one was written for me," Argento told Variety. "I’m so excited that for the first time in my career, I will be able to involve my fans so early in the process and have them play an integral role in my next film. Also, working with Iggy Pop is amazing!”
Iggy returned the compliment, saying: "(Dario's) strange, beautiful and terrifying films have always fascinated me. If I could play the Sandman for him it would make my life complete. I hope I have not just written my own epitaph.”
