Arts+CultureNewsMira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow want a Romy and Michele sequelUnfortunately, Disney isn't letting themShareLink copied ✔️July 31, 2014Arts+CultureNewsTextZing Tsjeng In the grand pantheon of 90s teen films, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion might not rank in the same league as its more iconic peers Clueless or She's All That, but we'd argue that it's the one film that keeps getting relevant the older you get. Who doesn't wish they could go back to their high school reunion (or college, whatever) and show everyone how successful they are? Even if you have to pretend you invented the Post-it note? Mira Sorvino, who played Romy White, has said that she's lobbied for a sequel for years, along with co-star Lisa Kudrow and Robin Schiff, the movie's creator and writer. The only problem is Disney won't let them. Hey #RomyandMichele fans, pls RT! let’s get another reunion going on the bigscreen! @RomyMichele@LisaKudrow@eonlinehttp://t.co/jcV9nIhOcR— Mira Sorvino (@MiraSorvino) July 29, 2014 "Disney, if you're listening – everybody wants it!" the Oscar winner told E! News. "Me and Lisa and Robin would love to do a sequel. We have asked Disney before. It's Disney that has to decide to say yes." "I don't think they realize what a cult phenomenon it has become," Sorvino added. "I mean, people dress up as us for Halloween!" Romy and Michele's High School Reunion was once regarded as a critical flop, even though it took in almost $30 million at the box office. Over the years, it's since become a cult classic, both for its classic one-liners ("I'm the Mary, and you're the Rhoda") and its iconic 90s style. Sorvino said that she was deluged by Romy and Michele fans when she appeared at this year's Comic-Con for her new BBC America drama Intruders. "People were like, 'Why aren't Romy and Michele at Comic-Con?'" Sorvino said. "I was like, 'It's not a current movie. It's a while ago.' And it was like, 'When are you coming back? When are you going to come here for the sequel?'" Sorvino has said that she may even resort to Kickstarter to get her dream sequel funded. In 2005, a television prequel was made starting Katherine Heigl as Romy and Alexandra Breckenridge as Michele. But obviously, Romy and Michele is nothing without its original cast – and its original wardrobe, too. We'll take Michele's matching cherry earrings and necklace, thanks.
