While the bite will have serious consequences for Suarez and left a very obvious mark on Italian defender Giorgio Chilellini's shoulder, at least the internet's having a good time. It's also proved to be a windfall for gamblers who bet on what most would consider an unlikely event: Luis Suarez biting somebody at this year's World Cup. Suarez now faces a lengthy ban and an extended period of time sat somewhere between footballer and 2014 World Cup meme. Internet jokers have plenty of reference points for the incident, given that this is Suarez's third time biting somebody on the pitch. With odds of 175-1 being offered by online betting sites such as Betsafe, many punters thought that it was worth a flutter. Swedish fan Jonathan Braeck bet around £7 on Suarez going psycho for a third time. He told the Sport Expressen newspaper: "First I thought I’d bet a little more, but a friend said I was just wasting my money. When Italy took over the game you knew that he could go a little crazy. I didn’t think that he would bite, but that he’d do something stupid. Then he did the best stupid thing that he could do." A Norwegian betting site called Betsson also paid out to 167 gamblers who forecasted Suarez committing assault on the field – apparently their biggest winner took home £3,300.
