For five days in the first week of December, a selection of EYE’s mixed media, realia-collage works where shown alongside works by other artists featured in the Death by Basel show at the Fredic Snitzer Gallery in Miami.I sat down with EYE a short while ago for his first major interview in six years for the current February 2009 issue of Dazed and Confused. And as was alluded in the interview, EYE had over one hundred art works taken from his first show at the Magical Art Room Gallery (also featured in the current issue), then located down a hilly side street in the Roppongi area of Tokyo. For this exhibit, Death by Basel curators Agatha Wara and Antonin Gaultier collaborated with adored Japanese magazine, OK FRED to produce an 80 page (A5 size) publication featuring shots of EYE’s works as well as a lengthy interview by my colleague, writer Yoshi Tsujimura. The limited edition book was sold at the gallery during the exhibition period, but I’ve heard a reprint is in order for the demanding unlucky ones who couldn’t make it to Miami last December. For a little extra EYE, the book is being made reasonably available on the OK Fred site.Read Vicente Gutierrez's interview with EYE in the current issue of Dazed & Confused.
