Be it raising awareness of lives capsized by the Aids crisis or her activism against the Sackler family and the opioid epidemic, Goldin is a tireless and compassionate campaigner for change. Having been a vocal champion of Palestine, she’s now lending her support to the latest edition of the Pictures for Purpose print sale – an initiative founded to raise funds for pressing humanitarian causes. While their previous print sales have been dedicated to people affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the 2023 earthquake in Turkey and Syria, and children suffering from the devastating invasion of Gaza, this latest edition raises crucial funds to help care for animals in need in the Gaza Strip. An open edition of three signed prints will be available until 17 April, 2025, and proceeds will go to help Sulala Animal Rescue, an organisation founded by the Sulala family to care for the stray animals displaced and injured by war – a cause particularly close to Goldin’s heart. In a statement shared by Pictures for Purpose, Goldin wrote: “Sulala Animal Rescue has become a passionate concern for people all over the world. Saeed Al-Err and his sons maintain such dignity and humility throughout this terrible year and a half. Their compassion is endless for the animals, the innocent victims of man’s folly. They are running a free veterinary clinic to treat animals’ wounds and illnesses, and expanded to run a school for children and made efforts to manage their trauma. One of their missions is to teach their community compassionate care for animals. My greatest pride and joy is to be a small part of the Sulala family. I pray they will be able to continue their important work.” The special edition Nan Goldin Prints for Purpose print sale is open until 17 April, 2025.
