Launched yesterday, Don’t Back Down! brings together more than 40 notable photographers who are selling prints to raise money for three US charities; Equal Justice Initiative, Inner City Arts and The Okra Project.
Photographers include Jamel Shabazz and Danielle Levitt, with Don’t Back Down! collaborating with Contact Photo Lab, a Black-owned photography lab in Downtown LA, to produce the $150 prints.
“We want to show the power that artists/photographs have as a collective force,” write the organisers in a press release. “During these times we know it can e tough to see where our power as artists lay in making a difference and where we hold the most influence, so we thought creating a collective site to sell prints to raise money was the perfect solution.”
Don’t Back Down! joins a growing list of fundraisers coming together to sell prints and raise funds to charities around the world, including the Anti-Racism Photography Fundraiser – which is donating its profits to Black British charities – as well as See In Black – which ended its first sale today and is donating proceeds to five key charities in the US.
While most fundraisers have launched for a limited amount of time, Don’t Back Down plans to continue to sell prints throughout the year, featuring a changing roster of artists.
“The goal is to continue to sell prints, find new photographers, and choose different organisations to donate to multiples time a year.”
