The siblings, who are known for their profoundly woke interviews and abstract social media posts, shared images of the LA demonstration earlier this week. This included a short clip of Willow chanting “can’t drink oil, keep in the soil”, and a (possibly related) tweet from Jaden saying he was crying. The musicians are the latest celebrities to speak out against the pipeline, joining Shailene Woodley, Bernie Sanders, Rosario Dawson and Riley Keogh. The construction, which would cost $3.8 billion and span 1,170 miles, has been seen as controversial because of its potential effects on the Missouri River. If it were to be contaminated with the crude oil carried in the pipeline, North Dakota’s Standing Rock Sioux tribes would have their clean water supply ruined. Woodley, who was arrested at a demonstration against the pipeline earlier this month, wrote about the risks in a recent essay for Time. “Simply feeding off the hype of a celebrity’s arrest ain’t going to save the world,” she wrote. “But, standing together will. Please stand in solidarity with the Sioux people of Standing Rock Reservation to ensure that we still have rivers to swim in, springs to drink from and lakes to float on.” #NoDAPLpic.twitter.com/E4QFXlzp1A— Jaden Smith (@officialjaden) October 24, 2016Escape the algorithm!
