Arts+CultureNewsAmber Rose hits out at GQ for dumbed down interviewThe piece opens with a description of her as ‘Kanye’s infamous ex’ and ‘Wiz Khalifa’s baby mama’ShareLink copied ✔️October 21, 2015Arts+CultureNewsTextThomas Gorton Amber Rose has hit out at GQ on her Instagram after conducting a photoshoot and interview with the magazine, accusing them of dumbing her down and criticising the title that makes needless reference to her ex-lovers Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa. From her Instagram: "Really @gq??? I'm so much more then Kanye's Ex or Wiz's baby's mama. Damn, why the fuck did u guys reach out to me for this article and photoshoot? To dumb me down? I talked about feminism and my Slutwalk... Wtf nice title smh I expected so much more from u guys and I'm so disappointed. I was so excited to be featured in GQ not realizing I was shooting for a tabloid. My slutwalk was for ignorant shit like this. Oh "Her beautiful dark twisted journey to the top"? Nice pun. Negative af. Thx for nothing" She’s completely right to be angry. Rose is a woman who’s currently (and rightly) in the spotlight for her Slutwalk project and her Walk Of No Shame video, both things that encourage women to assert control over their bodies and campaign against "slut-shaming". Having dedicated time to this mission, why should she be defined in the headline of an article by the men that she’s dated, particularly ones that have publicly shamed her? We must stop calculating women’s worth or fame in this grim fashion because it’s exploitative and weird. It panders to the crap idea that this is the only way that she’s relatable, you know, because she’s slept with Kanye. Is that the only way that we can understand who she is? Plus, I have no idea (and I guess neither does the mag) how she feels about her ex-lover, making it pretty cruel to lead with a pun on Kanye West’s record My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and discuss Rose’s "beautiful dark twisted journey to the top". She is also described as a "teen stripper turned megalomaniac muse". Publications constantly put talented, strong women on the cover of their mags, which is cool unless you then make the hook of the piece about random dudes the woman may or may not have hooked up with. Two months ago, we wrote about an FKA twigs interview in which she is asked more about her relationship with Robert Pattinson – the good looking vampire – than feels comfortable. Not only is it disrespectful, it’s boring. Both are bad. Watch Amber Rose’s Walk Of No Shame below. It’s funny.
