Take the 66-year-old Nebraskan who attempted to file a lawsuit against all gay people. An utterly futile crusade and a bomb of bad PR for the woman’s personal brand. Wait, so you’re not only homophobic to the extent that you’re willing to go to court over it, but you thought you could actually sue every gay person ever? Wow. The latest opposition to same-sex marriage comes, once again, from America’s Midwest. Dick and Betty Odgaard are a Christian couple who refused to host a gay wedding in their church in 2013. Consequently, the church is shutting down this month after it refused to adhere by the state’s anti-discrimination laws. Instead of reflecting on the whys and the hows after their church had been declared not fit for opening, the couple stormed straight into setting up a charity called God’s Original Design Ministry and began asking for donations so that they could manufacture posters explaining that marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman – see Dick and Betty as an example. This is the text on the poster that they’ve managed to erect: ‘Marriage = 1 man and 1 woman. Please… I need your help with this! – God’ So far they’ve managed to get one of the billboards onto a highway, but they want 999 more "points of light". It’s unclear how much the billboards cost, but if people are unable to contribute financially, then God’s Original Design Ministry is offering the chance for people to submit "punch lines" that "inspire others". Some of the catchy entries include "This is 100% all natural" and the emphatic "I approve of NO other options". It’s easy to imagine that Dick or Betty will one day look back at the badly designed website they made in 2015, the cumbersome catchphrases on the homophobic billboards and think "Jeez, I should have done something different".
