If you have ever imagined your portrait adorning the walls of an art gallery, then this summer you might just get your heart’s desire. In August, the notion of instant gratification is being pushed to radical new extremes with the hugely ambitious Rankin Live!, an ever-changing exhibition in which you will get the chance to have your portrait shot, framed and exhibited in record-breaking time.

As the accelerated pace of the digital age reaches full velocity, Rankin is teaming up with Dazed to create the definitive quick-fire “documentary” of what it is to be British today. We are looking for 1,000 people aged 13* and over whose distinctive look and idiosyncratic style will help to create a unique photographic record of Britain in the 21st century. Look sharp and your image could be sharing gallery space with the likes of Kate Moss a mere 15 minutes after Rankin’s shutter has closed.

To be shot for this this groudbreaking project, send us a photograph flaunting your individuality and stylistic flair. If you are chosen, your portrait will be exhibited alongside iconic images of everyone from Vivienne Westwood to the Queen of England in Rankin’s first major retrospective. For £50 you will also recieve a print of your portrait, and with all the profits being donated to Oxfam there is every reason why you should put yourself in the picture.

Rankin Live! takes place in August.

To get involved contact Rankinlive@Rankin.co.uk and include details such as name, where you live and contact telephone number.

*applicants under the age of 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian.

Or alternatively could could debag yourself, and sit your bare arse on a "sponsored by Epson" photocopier and do your own 2 second portrait kinda "shot of an arse hole by an arse hole" , and give your £50 to any charity other than one so desperate that they are taken in by the most talentless self-promoting (the assistants do all the work anyway) "photographer" in the business. Irony No1: a photographer that has only copied the work of others and never done anything original in his life would be better be replaced by a photocopier and a copy of any book by David Bailey. Irony No2: who owns this magazine then?....oh that Rankin bloke, now I get it. That sort of make this a triple con. Yours A Shooter

Dear Shooter I think you are just envious, Rankin is a true gienius. Rankin - Edit by Dazed Digital: This comment is not from Rankin.

Envious is not strong enough - The guy is a GOD!!

Shooter is right to stand by his opinion i'm afraid!

hahaha!!! rankin IS a genius! what a chump concept. but you can bet the biggest chump is the one in the chair gurning his/her face off while some unpaid gopher snaps away and his Rankness tries to pull his fingers out his bottom...

  • Laura (24/02/2009 00:52:37)

Ooooh! What did I just walk into here.... Jealous much? I reckon its a canny good concept and if I was Rankin or had his punch I would relish the opportunity to do this. Yeah he might use his assistants hands way more than his own but if I was his assistant I wouldn't be complaining. Conveyer-belt photography is the way to go, spesh if some good can go to charity along the way - who cares if its self=promotion in the end. Isn't that what photography's about - getting your name out there. Maybe I'm just young and naive and a bit in love with Rankin's photography.

I agree! Its a really great idea in my opinion.. and if its all for a good cause lets all go for it :)

rankins only a genius in self marketing... no more no less

  • Jackkkk (26/03/2009 20:18:29)

Of course he uses flows of assistants- that's what comes with establishing a name for yourself. It's just like any model, singer or actor who has to do their own makeup at the start of their career and if they hit it big end up accumulating an entourage. The main thing is he worked his way to the top, with a demanding job of a reknown photographer it's physically impossible to stick to your modest roots. And secondly, i don't see the problem with self marketing. If you got the stature already, and the wit to do it, you got to go the extra mile to stay on top. That is al :]

I agree with Jackkkk and everyone else who sings Rankin's praise. The guy is an extremely talented genuis who is not at all up himself. RankinLive is an amazingly clever project, not only is it making money for charity, but it is allowing the everyday British person to get in on a piece of the action, to experience what the beautiful, rich and famous take for granted.

  • brigitte (29/03/2009 16:33:13)

...... furthermore, there are loads of exiting, beautiful, enigmatic people in Britain who could never afford a Rankin portrait, let alone have their image hanging in a gallery beside the lucky few who have made it to the top. And particularly in these hard times of recession, is it not a joy for people to see themselves up there every much as cool, interesting and gorgeous as the so called "stars"...

  • Brigitte (29/03/2009 16:34:06)

...Rankin is showing that his true skill is how in 15mins or so he can make the average person look as good as any star or famous person and that's without retouching! It may have the speed of a conveyor belt, but each portrait will speak for itself, individual, yet so Rankin! Pure talent!

He didn't work his way to the top. His family is on Forbes 50 list. When you can afford to hire everyone (the best lighting guys, best equipment, studios, models, stylists) it is a bit easier to ,uh, get 'your vision out there'. He didn't spend years assisting or learning the technical aspects of lighting, so its easier to break the rules, and be lauded for it
