You can now get paid to play Animal Crossing

*Updates CV*

It’s no secret that Animal Crossing has become the game du jour of lockdown. The Nintendo simulation game has become a creative outlet for many in these weird, isolated times, from high fashion bootleg fits à la Raf Simons and Rick Owens to renditions of iconic artworks like Marina Abramović’s “The Artist Is Present” and hit noughties music videos by Lady Gaga and Britney Spears. Unsurprisingly, this has led to many companies wanting to capitalise on this newfound market, including Hong Kong-based Cyber Games Arena, which is literally paying people to play New Horizons.

According to the job listing, the company is hiring “gaming specialists” for an unspecified role that requires you to design specific islands for a month. Starting on a freelance contract, the position pays $13,000 HKD (approximately £1,347), with the possibility of extending the contract or becoming a full-time employee depending on your performance. Most importantly, however, the job comes with a highly-coveted Nintendo Switch console, so start brushing up your CV, people!

If building islands isn’t your niche, Olivia’s, an online homeware brand, is looking for “virtual interior design consultants” to help people decorate their digital homes for an “upwards of £40 an hour”. Alternatively, if you’re in need of some virtual feng shui advice yourself, Queer Eye’s Bobby Berk is answering questions on Twitter. Take notes.
