To call Parker Kit Hill versatile would be an understatement. Log on to their Instagram and you’ll be greeted by the many faces of the model, actor, and former Vine star – it’s a treasure trove of looks. Then there’s their CV. As well as appearing on Broad City, and as a voice artist in an upcoming animated series, they are an IMG model. In fact, you might have seen them in campaigns for Nike, MAC and Acne Studios, or walking for the likes of Eckhaus Latta, Sandy Liang, and Palomo Spain, marking their crossover from viral star into IRL fashion muse.

According to Kit Hill, their attitude to work is to “never stop learning”. They developed the mantra growing up in Fort Worth, Texas, where they would while away the day making up dance routines, singing two-part harmonies, and drawing with their sister. “If there is music playing, there is always some sort of creation going on,” says Kit Hill, who is also a classically trained ballet dancer.

“When I was in middle school, I didn’t really have many friends because I was trying to figure out my sexuality,” they recall. “Creating content was an outlet for me – I’d make friends online, and basically learned how to socialise through the internet.” The situation led to Parker’s love of social media in all forms, but it was their hyped-up energy, surrealist humour, and elastic physicality that drew in such a huge online following. “I needed to make my content stand out from everyone else’s,” they explain. “I viewed everything as a piece of art.”

What issues or causes are you passionate about and why?

Parker Kit Hill: Civil rights. I feel like now more than ever, there are so many boxes and labels that people try to force onto everything, when at the end of the day we all should be focusing on being ourselves. When are people going to realise that we are all the same? We all breathe and blink the same, right? We all live on this planet together, right? I wish for kindness and inclusion in every aspect of life.

How do you want to influence the future?

Parker Kit Hill: I want to show people new cutting edge technology, I want to be at the forefront of innovation. I want to inspire people to always have a forward way of thinking. Being direct and decisive, not second-guessing yourself. I want to be a voice for the people who don’t get represented enough. I want to show people that they can shape the future just by believing in themselves and being mindful of others.

What creative or philanthropic project would you work on with a grant from the Dazed 100 Ideas Fund?

Parker Kit Hill: I want to use this money to create a fashion film with a brand that I love. I want to direct, edit, style, and cast the entire thing. I've learned so many skills throughout the years, and I want to use them to create a body of work that can be relevant for generations. A body of work that can be respected by the theatre nerds, the fashion world, the ballet world, the comedy world... basically something that everyone can digest.
