Frustrated by inauthentic brands trying to tap into the queer community to make money, casting director Cody Chandler founded New Pandemics – a talent agency solely for LGBTQ+ people.
“Creating a space and opportunities for an otherwise marginalised and overlooked pool of talent is our main drive and inspiration,” Chandler says of the agency, which not only acts as a much-needed representative for fledgling models just starting out, but also a resource for brands which shows just how diverse the queer community can be.
Since launching last year, the agency has put forward talent to work for the likes of Gucci, Prada, and Magnum Photos – and even made an appearance in the spring 2019 issue of Dazed.
Importantly, New Pandemics encourages its signings to follow their creative pursuits, regardless of whether they are associated with fashion or not. “We are most proud of the talent within the agency for taking a stance and using their collective voices and their art as a force for good,” the casting director explains. “We are also proud of them for paving the way so that others on the spectrum can follow in the same footsteps without fear of limitations.”
