After snagging her first major film role, expect to see more of the Skate Kitchen member
Skateboarding is Rachelle Vinberg’s art. A member of Skate Kitchen, a crew tapped by Pharrell, adidas, and Miu Miu for stunning visual campaigns, she’s at the heart of a collective that’s cultivating a radical, stylish new narrative for skating outside of the boring boys’ club. A talented skater brought up in Long Island before transplanting herself to Brooklyn, she’s using her visibility to encourage young girls and boys alike to get on the board.
Wolfpack director Crystal Moselle’s upcoming NYC drama, named after the collective, stars Vinberg in her first major film role. She plays Camille, who finds solace, personal connection, and sharpened skill in the skate park bowls, flanked by her mates and Jaden Smith as a romantic co-star. It’s a coming-of-age film that captures a snapshot of American youth, at the intersection of Larry Clark’s Kids and an animated Instagram feed, in which Vinberg shines with style. Proclaimed by audiences at Sundance as a kinetic revelation, it’s a dynamic look at a star on the rise.
