At just 24 years old, Simon Porte Jacquemus has already shaken up Paris’ famously poker-faced fashion system – and gained support from the likes of Adrian Joffe and Rei Kawakubo. Now in his tenth season, his pop-savvy designs are inspired by such archetypal French concepts as la femme enfant or holidays at Montpellier’s La Grande Motte beach. “The Jacquemus girl is a bit of a cliché,” he laughs. “She’s your typical French girl.”

How would you sum up what you do in a sentence?

Jacquemus: I live the dream I dreamed all my childhood.

What’s your favourite song and movie of 2014?

Jacquemus: Music: “Problem”, Ariana Grande. Movie: Mommy, Xavier Dolan.

In 15 words, sum up what we can expect from you in 2015.

Jacquemus: Staying as happy and free as I feel right now.

What new skill did you learn this year?

Jacquemus: Staying spontaneous.

Who’s an unsung cultural hero that you discovered this year?

Jacquemus: Pina Bausch.

What’s the most surprising thing we’d find out if we looked at your phone?

Jacquemus: Yokee (a karaoke app).

Who should have been at number one on the Dazed 100?

Jacquemus: Guillaume Gallienne.
