Who better to soundtrack your Valentine’s Day than Slushy Noobz? The internet’s beloved duo, Hamzah and Martin, whose absurd online content has made them the dopamine-hit creators you can’t stop watching. While known for their “mind-bendingly banal” content, the pair are firmly plugged into the music world, recently posing with Xaviersobased, 2hollis and DJ Rennessey. Not to mention Martin’s own digicore, internet-fed-and-spewed project, 2000WR (worth a listen!).

Below, the pair curate a loverboy playlist for Dazed, as well as an alien shoot shot by Chase Rutherford. We talk to the pair about their Valentine’s Day plans, their favourite songs to fall in love to, and who should be on your listening radar.

What’s an album you first fell in love with?

Martin: 99.9% by Kaytranada

Hamzah: Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves.

What’s a song you’d play to woo someone?

Martin: I wooed my fiancée, Mandy, when I first asked her to be my girlfriend and I had “My Girl” by The Temptations playing in the background. I like to think that song helped me.

Hamzah: “Trip to Japan” by The Shacks.

Talk us through a track and what it means to you.

Hamzah: “Lady” by Little Riverband. It played first when I did a Spotify blend with my girlfriend Claire, it feels like falling in love all over again to me.

Martin: “Kiss You All Over” by Exile is awesome ’cause it absolutely conveys the raw emotion of being madly in love with someone. I love singing this one to Mandy without breaking eye contact.

What’s the best loverboy track of all time?

Martin: “Sparks” by Coldplay is legendary. So many emotions in that song.

Hamzah: “Promiscuous Boy” by Nelly Furtado

What’s a song that feels like having a crush?

Martin:Summer Love” by Justin Timberlake

Hamzah: Crave you” by Adventure Remix

If you could take any musician, living or dead, on a date, who would it be?

Martin: Michael Jackson.

Hamzah: 50 Cent.

What’s a live show or gig you loved the most recently?

Martin: Osamason in Toronto was fantastic.

Hamzah: Ye in Mexico City.

To end, talk us through another track or two.

Martin: I first heard “Baby” by The Phenomenal Handclap Band as a remix in one of Solomun’s Boiler Room sets. I just love the lyrics in this, because when you are with someone you love, it really does feel like you can take on anything and rule the world.

Also, “Do U Luv Me?” by DJ Phenix is such a sensual song. Listening to it makes me feel like the sexiest man in the entire world. I have no idea where I found it.

Hamzah: Mr Blue” by Catherine Feeny, it played first at the end credits of the last episode of Bojack Horseman. Every time I finish the show, and it plays, it feels like an anti-suicide song, like the show is saying Bojack was stupid and you should love life, even if you’re sad 💔
