After a lengthy hiatus, it looks like Zach Hill, Andy Morin and MC Ride are back
In typically enigmatic fashion, Death Grips have posted a cryptic video to their Instagram account, in what seems to be a taster of new music.
The clip starts off with some sparse, electronic beats over psychedelic visuals. As the music quickens pace, the visuals become increasingly frenzied and manic, with shots of MC Ride dancing on stage and an empty-roomed soundcheck interspersed within.
Along with this, the band have also announced a North American tour starting on May 4 2023. It’s unclear at this point whether the dates are one leg of a wider international schedule. UK fans will doubtless be baying for any further announcements, as the band’s last show on these shores was at the O2 Academy Leeds back in 2019.
The band will, however, be heading to Spain in the summer of 2023 for Primavera Sound. The double weekend festival kicks off on June 1 in Barcelona, transferring to Madrid seven days later to do it all over again. Kendrick Lamar, Caroline Polacheck, PinkPantheress, Jockstrap and Black Country, New Road are all set to join Death Grips in the Spanish sun.
The trio’s return will of course be welcome news to many – it’s been over four years since the latest full-length Death Grips album, and three since their last new release, a half-hour continuous mix called “Gmail and the restraining orders” for Warp Records’ NTS takeover.
