Björk is releasing a gabber album

Fossora, the singer’s first album since 2017, is set for release this autumn

Björk fans rejoice: the singer has announced her new album. Speaking to Chal Ravens for the Guardian, Björk revealed that the new album – titled Fossora – will hit shelves this autumn, released on One Little Independent Records.

It seems as though the album is set to be a marked departure from her last album, Utopia, which was released in 2017. Ravens describes Fossora’s sound as “organic and spacious, earthbound rather than dreamy, and filled with warmth and breath”.

She goes on to describe the album as “a world of contrasts: the album’s two lodestones are bass clarinet and violent outbursts of gabber.”

It’s not an entirely gabber-fuelled album, though – Fossora also includes two songs, “Sorrowful Soil” and “Ancestress”, dedicated to the singer’s late mother, the environmental activist Hildur Rúna Hauksdóttir, who passed away in 2018.

There’s also a collab with Serpentwithfeet, and her children, Sindri and Doa, feature on backing vocals.
