Featuring never-before-seen footage, performances, and music, the documentary – which is the first film project officially sanctioned by the Bowie estate – includes the artist and visionary’s own narration. Morgen, the Oscar-nominated director behind Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck (2015), The Kid Stays in the Picture (2002) and Jane (2017), created the documentary using thousands of hours of rare performance footage and more than 500 assets from Bowie’s archive. “Bowie cannot be defined, he can be experienced,” Morgen told the crowd at CinemaCon. “That is why we crafted Moonage Daydream, to be a unique cinematic experience.” The film will premiere on HBO and HBO Max in the spring of 2023.
