On Unlimited Ammo: Infinity, the Swedish artist ventures deeper into her future-pop utopia, with six explosive reworkings by caro<3, umru, Felicita, Tohji, Thu Slaughter, Woesum, Ö, and Baseck. “I love this project so much and hearing everybody’s remixes has been really rewarding, because I honestly didn’t think we could make this project better than what it already is. But Unlimited Ammo: Infinity really is the elevated version of Unlimited Ammo,” says Namasenda. Bringing together vocalists including Oklou, La Zowi and Hannah Diamond, the record is packed with back-to-back bangers, from the pinball exuberance of umru’s “Black Ops 2” to Felicita and Tohji’s glitching rendition of “Demonic”. There are cry-in-the-club moments á la Ö and thrashing breakcore via Baseck. With her gun still cocked and ready to fire, Namasenda is taking no prisoners. Below, umru, Ö, Caro<3 and more discuss what it was like collaborating on the Swedish signee’s remix album. UMRU, “BLACK OPS 2” umru: This was a super fun project to work on! I actually asked for the stems for both this track and Star because I couldn’t pick and started remixes for both before settling on this one. It’s such an infectious hook and I love the syncopation of how it repeats, I almost wanted to see how many different sounds and ideas I could fit beneath it and still maintain the effect of the core melody. Ö, “☆” Ö: There are two fun facts about the remix of “Stars”. I was given two folders, one with the stems of the actual song, that have been processed by Logic’s Varispeed (to change tempo and key of the song), and then a folder of Raw stems at the original pitch and bpm. I chose the latter, so in a sense, my remix’s vocals are less processed than those of the original song, which I find quite funny. Secondly, when AG sent me the LP masters, it didn’t mention the feats. I knew someone else sang on this track, but I discovered that it was Oklou only shortly after the remix went out on Bandcamp! As for my approach, I decided to only keep the voice and the Arp Gimmick and re-harmonise everything. It’s often a good way for me to get creative, and change the narrative of a song. FELICITA, “DEMONIC“ Felicita: I fell in love with “Demonic” instantly; I love the brash and sophisticated lyrics, and the way Naomi conveys psychotic scenarios with a very clean, controlled vocal delivery. Then the image of Naomi’s ‘shake em up and start a water fight collided with Tohji singing: “snowwwwwboarding / I don’t wanna talking’ in my mind“. It became clear the only option was to contact Tohji, and us three create something together, something which feels like both a remix and a brand new track. CARO<3, “STEEL” CARO<3: I love Unlimited Ammo: Infinity so much, I listen to the mixtape a lot. I was especially glad to remix “Steel” because there are two of my favourite artists/people on it: Naomi and Hannah <3. I based my remix around one line, “your mind is the ocean“, because I remember when I heard the track the first time, and that line came on, it gave me goosebumps. I wasn‘t planning on making such a long track at first, but then these other parts took form naturally, and I got excited that there are different atmospheres/intentions in the same song. For me, there‘s the beginning that is a bit more on the sad/reflective side of things; the middle which serves as a transition, and then the outro is euphoric and playful. I imagined listening to it in a convertible by the ocean, and when the end comes on, you‘re so pumped up that you put the volume to the max and it‘s all sunny and warm – and you‘re happy. BASECK, “CLOUDS” BASECK: I’ve been a fan of Namasenda. I especially love the single “Wanted”. When A. G (Cook) asked me to collab on some beats for her, I was hyped. The first piece we did for Unlimited Ammo was “Shots Fired”. It started as some patterns that were almost a reggaeton-style beat I made on an old groovebox that had been collecting dust. A. G ended up speeding the whole track up. It took me a little bit to get used to! I love the idea of finishing a track and then speeding it up afterwards. When I remixed “Clouds”, I wanted a similar sped-up effect. I took the original, ground it through granular synthesis, chopped up some breaks on my sampler, speed up the original vocals, added kicks, and went wild. It was a nod to my breakcore/gabber roots. Pure thrash. I love Namasenda‘s attitude and duality. I was inspired by that, so I tried to fit that into the remix.
