In what can only be described as a Christmas miracle, Britney Spears has revealed that she’s working on new music.

The pop star hinted at the news on Instagram today (December 23) with a 40-second video that shows Spears flexing her vocal skills in front of a mirror – dressed suitably in Y2K attire (read: low-waist jeans and a cropped sweater), no less. 

“I just realised this today guys … after what my family tried to do to me three years ago … I needed to be my own cheerleader!!!! God knows they weren’t…” read the caption.

She then shared some statistics about her own career, including how she’s sold over 100million records sold worldwide. “No … I’m not auditioning for anything !!!! I’m reminding myself and the world of who I am !!!!” she said.

“Yes … I will be my own cheerleader … why ???? I’m here to remind my white ‘classy’ family that I haven’t forgotten what they did to me nor will I ever forget !!!!⁣”

⁣She concluded the post by saying: “Pssss new song in the works … I’m gonna let you know what I mean!!!!!”

If her sentiment wasn’t clear enough, a follow-up post shows an early-noughties snap of the singer with the caption, “Sit down and stay humble y’all … and kiss my motherfucking ass.”

In November, the star announced that she just finished shooting a movie titled The Idol, sparking rumours among fans that she’s involved in The Weeknd’s upcoming HBO drama series of the same name. With a book also on the way, it’s safe to assume that 2022 is the year that Spears strikes back – and we love to see it.
