Cardi B promises new music and a movie in 2022

The rapper says her follow-up to Invasion of Privacy has ‘got to’ be released next year

Cardi B has revealed that she’s planning to release a new album alongside performing her first lead film role in 2022, offering fans an honest update on her life in a recent video posted to Instagram.

“Everything be looking so glamorous, you see my fucking Instagram and everything, but it’s been really… it’s been a lot,” the “Up” rapper says in the 13-minute video. “Trying to balance out my new motherfucking life, like I got two kids, my daughter’s going to school now, and I have a lot of jobs now.”

“I’m in a lot of positions that require a lot of my time,” she adds. “And on top of that, I gotta put out this album next year. Not only do I got to put out an album, but I gotta record a movie. I’ve got to do so much shit, y’all.”

Cardi B released her debut (and so far only) studio album, Invasion of Privacy, back in 2018, and previously hinted that the follow-up would arrive in 2021. “But, then I just stopped working on my album out of nowhere because I feel like the whole COVID thing discouraged me to put out my album,” she says in an interview with XXL published in April this year. “Because I want to put out an album, and I want to tour.”

In the meantime, Cardi has also featured on several tracks, including Lizzo’s “Rumors” and Normani’s “Wild Side”, and has contributed “Bet It” to the soundtrack of the Netflix film Bruised.

The movie that Cardi B references in her Instagram video, however, is most likely the crime comedy Assisted Living, directed by Thembi Banks (as reported by Deadline). The production, which the rapper-slash-actor joined earlier this year, marks her first lead movie role, following her feature-length debut in Lorene Scafaria’s Hustlers in 2019.
