Watch Kanye West’s new visuals for ‘Donda Chant’

The tribute to the rapper’s late mother mines footage from his third Donda listening party in Chicago

Earlier this week, Kanye West (AKA Ye) shared a Nick Knight-directed music video for the Donda song “24”. Now, the rapper has shared more visuals from his tenth studio album, in the form of a video for the opening track, “Donda Chant”.

Posted exclusively to Instagram, the new video revolves around West’s third Donda listening party, held at Chicago’s Soldier Field ahead of the album’s much-delayed release last month.

Incorporating aerial footage of the replica of his childhood house that Kanye built in the stadium, the black and white clip pays tribute to his late mother (and namesake of the album) with flashes of old photographs projected onto the building.

Similarly, his previous Donda videos — for “Come to Life” and “24”, respectively — borrowed footage from his large-scale listening parties. While the former included his self-immolation and Kim Kardashian’s surprise appearance in a Balenciaga bridal look, the latter centred on his ascension above the stands of Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz stadium.

Ahead of the album’s release, West also teased new music in Beats ads starring US sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, including “Glory”, featuring Dr. Dre and famed Olympics commentator Snoop Dogg.
