James Blake shares the video for new track ‘Say What You Will’

Starring Finneas, the visuals come ahead of Blake’s newly-announced album, Friends That Break Your Heart

James Blake has announced a new album, titled Friends That Break Your Heart, that is set to arrive on September 10. The announcement also comes alongside a new song, “Say What You Will”, accompanied by a video starring Finneas.

In the visuals, Blake is seen stacking himself up against the musician, songwriter, and Billie Eilish producer. While Blake clutches a single Grammy, Finneas struts around with an armful of awards, and when Blake thinks a fan wants to take a selfie, he’s actually handed their phone to snap a pic with the other musician, and so on.

“The song is about finding peace with who you are and where you’re at regardless of how well other people seem to be doing,” Blake explains in a press release. “Comparison really is the thief of joy.”

The tracklist for Friends That Break Your Heart, tweeted out by Blake alongside news of an upcoming tour, also includes collaborations with SZA, JID, and more.

Blake’s last album was 2019’s Assume Form, though that was followed in October 2020 by his Before EP, as well as an EP of covers — including tracks by Eilish, Frank Ocean, and Beyoncé — that arrived in December.
