My Bloody Valentine’s entire back catalogue — including 2013’s m b v — has been released online for the first time, following the announcement that they have signed with Domino Records. That’s not the only good news for fans of the pioneering shoegaze band, though, as new music is also on the way. Two albums, to be specific, which were originally slated for release in 2020.
“Our original plan was we would record both the albums back-to-back and then go tour on that,” says frontman Kevin Shields, in a March 31 interview with the New York Times. “And that would have been this year, you know, but everything really did slow down.”
Now, the group are waiting to get together to begin recording the forthcoming records — the first of which will be “warm and melodic” while the second, Shields says, is more experimental.
“I think once I can get over to Ireland it will get done very quickly as my vocals are often the last thing to be recorded,” says vocalist-slash-guitarist Bilinda Butcher. “They’ll probably be finished by the end of the year.”
Besides the full MBV archive hitting streaming services for the first time, new physical editions of the group’s past records are set to be released on May 21. Restored videos have also been posted to the band’s YouTube.
In April last year, the band’s artwork for Feed Me With Your Kiss, Glider, and the iconic 1991 record Loveless was plastered across hoodies, t-shirts, and more as part of a Supreme collection inspired by the band. Take a look here, and watch the recently-restored video for “only shallow” below.
