Set to be released in 2021, the record is currently untitled, but is around “60 per cent done” according to drummer Travis Barker. The band is “slowly finishing up” the follow-up to its 2019 studio album Nine, says Barker in a conversation for the Rock This podcast. “There’s a lot of cool stuff,” he adds, “like a song with Grimes right now that’s really, really cool that I love. There’s a song with Uzi that’s really, really cool that we did with Pharrell.” Barker also explains that the variety of featured artists doesn’t mean a departure from Blink-182’s usual sound, but rather involved bringing them into the pop punk fold. “I mean, it’s not like Blink’s making a rap song or anything,” he says of the collaboration with Lil Uzi Vert. “It’s like bringing Uzi over to our world. So it’s more of a punk, kind of like reggae feeling song.” “I don’t think Blink will ever be anything but a pop punk band.” Back in December 2019, Grimes revealed that she’d already made music for Lil Uzi Vert after he asked her to produce an EP for him, though he apparently never downloaded the WeTransfer link she sent. In January this year, it appeared that a Lil Uzi and Grimes collab could still be on the way, after the rapper (and $24-million-diamond-forehead-implant-haver) tweeted: “Me and grimes making hits.” The pair have also recently made plans to get “brain chips” together, courtesy of the neurotechnology company founded by Grimes’ boyfriend Elon Musk, which is… something to watch out for. Let’s aim for chips by 2022. it’s experimental surgery but if it succeeds we’ll have the knowledge of the Gods haha— 𝑪𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒆 𝑳𝒖𝒏𝒆࿎ (@Grimezsz) February 7, 2021Expand your creative community and connect with 15,000 creatives from around the world.READ MORERising singer Liim is the crooning voice of New York CityFrench producer Malibu is an ambient antidote for the chronically online10 musicians to watch in 202610 great albums you may have missed in the last three monthsZukovstheworld on the UK Ug scene: ‘It’s modern pop music’The only tracks you need to hear from December 202511 alt Christmas anthems for the miserable and brokenhearted Last Days: The opera exploring the myth of Kurt CobainHow hip-hop is shaping the fight for Taiwan’s futureNew York indie band Boyish: ‘Fuck the TERFs and fuck Elon Musk’The 5 best Travis Scott tracks... according to his mumTheodora answers the dA-Zed quiz
