Charli XCX’s quarantine documentary will premiere at virtual SXSW

The film documents the making of the musician’s lockdown album, how i’m feeling now, and the emotions that arise during a global pandemic

At the beginning of coronavirus lockdowns last year, Charli XCX started working on how i’m feeling now, a unique album that perfectly captures the equally-unique experience of self-isolation. Since then, the musician has also announced a forthcoming documentary, filmed simultaneously with the production of the record.

Now, the film – which is titled Alone Together – is set to premiere at this year’s SXSW showcase. As with 2020’s iteration of the festival, SXSW won’t be happening in person this year due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, but will instead take place virtually.

Alone Together is directed by filmmakers Bradley & Pablo, who previously worked on the video for Charli XCX and Troye Sivan’s “2099”.

In a statement posted to Instagram, Charli writes: “The documentary tells the story of not only the 5 week process surrounding the making of my album, how i’m feeling now, but also all the emotions that creating, connecting and living in a quarantine and in basically a new world evokes for people across the globe.”

Charli XCX also documented the pandemic in a series of diary entries for Dazed across 2020. Read the final entry – in which she recaps “the year we’ll never forget” – here.

Alone Together is set to debut at SXSW’s virtual film showcase on March 18, 2021.
