It’s no secret that the media loves to bleed dry every viral moment (see: Alex from Glasto), so: hello and welcome to another chapter in the Mick Fleetwood x TikTok skateboarder story.
Last month, 37-year-old Nathan Apodaca (AKA @420doggface208) shared a now-viral video of himself longboarding to work while swigging from a big carton of Ocean Spray and singing along to Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”.
The clip, which currently has 32.1 million views, proved popular with the band – in particular, its co-founder, Mick Fleetwood, who recreated the video on Monday (October 5). Since then, Apodaca has been gifted a car – and a lifetime’s supply of Ocean Spray – and has appeared on BBC News to discuss the whole thing.
Midway through the video call, the interviewer asked, “What do you think Mick Fleetwood would make of it?” before surprising Apodaca with the man himself. “One, we owe you,” opened Fleetwood, referencing the fact that the video has helped the band’s 1977 chart-topper enjoy its biggest-ever week on streaming services.
“It’s such a celebration of everything,” he continued. “It’s so joyous and fun, and I was just led right into it. People around me were going, ‘You’ve got to do this, it’s so cool’. We did it, and here we are talking. I just want to say, outside of Fleetwood Mac, we owe you. It’s such a great story and so needed in days that are really challenging. It makes people smile, and I’m so happy to be part of it. Congratulations on a wild, wild skateboard journey that has led us to talking today.”
Apodaca thanked Fleetwood for creating his own version of the video, before introducing his daughter – a huge Fleetwood Mac fan – to everyone on the call, and revealing that Fleetwood sent him a letter.
“I hope Stevie is watching,” concluded Fleetwood, referring to his bandmate, Stevie Nicks. “She’s going to be overjoyed.”
