Cardi B wants AOC to run for president

‘She better run for president when she turns 35,’ the rapper tweeted

Cardi B has said that she wants Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to run for president.

Cardi’s support came off the back of a video of Ocasio-Cortez – who, like Cardi, was born in the Bronx – dancing to the rapper’s hit “Bodak Yellow”.

“She better run for president when she turns 35,” Cardi tweeted. The congresswoman responded to Cardi’s tweet, writing: “Women Against Patriarchy (WAP) 2020.” That’s not exactly a “no”, is it?

Cardi’s “35” comment references the minimum age in which people are allowed to run for president in the United States. In 2018, Ocasio-Cortez she became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. She is currently 30 years old, but would be 35 by the time of the 2024 presidential election.

Ocasio-Cortez’s initial “Bodak Yellow” post underscored her own left-wing political message. “I had to get elected to Congress for me to afford dental treatment,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on her Instagram Story. “This is my first time having health insurance in years, and even then it didn’t really cover the cost of this — but it did cover other doc appts so I could more easily save.”

In the video, she shows off a new retainer while “Bodak Yellow” plays in the background. “In other words, I got a bag and fixed my teeth,” she added, referencing the Cardi B song. “Except you shouldn't need a bag to fix your teeth, get insulin, get healthcare.”

Cardi B is a supporter of AOC’s democratic socialist politics, having previously endorsed another democratic socialist, Bernie Sanders, for president.
