Kanye West shares new song ‘Donda’ in honour of his mother’s birthday

The rapper uploaded the track – named after his late mother – on Twitter

Kanye West has shared a new song, “Donda”, on Twitter. Named after his late mother, Donda West, the track was uploaded in honour of her birthday.

“In loving memory of my incredible mother on her birthday,” West tweeted with the video.

Donda West’s voice features on the new song, which opens with a recording of her reciting lyrics from KRS-One’s 1993 single “Sound of da Police”.

Donda West died in late November 2007 following complications from cosmetic surgery. Her death led to California’s then-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to sign the ‘Donda West Law’, which made it mandatory for patients to receive medical clearance through a physical examination before undergoing elective cosmetic surgery.

Kanye West has been busy in recent weeks, sharing a new song, “Wash Us in the Blood”, from his upcoming tenth album God’s Country. He also featured on “Ego Death”, a single by Ty Dolla $ign featuring FKA twigs, serpentwithfeet, and Skrillex. There is also the other matter of his presidential run, of course.
