Beyoncé shares the trailer for a new visual album, Black Is King

The video will revolve around The Gift, the record she released alongside Disney’s 2019 Lion King remake

A new visual album, written, directed, and executive produced by Beyoncé, has been announced by Disney+. Titled Black Is King, the visuals will arrive on the platform July 31, a little over one year after the premiere of Disney’s Lion King remake, in which Beyoncé voiced a prominent character, Nala.

Black Is King will also revolve around the album the singer released in conjunction with the film, The Lion King: The Gift.

Other contributors to the album include Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Tierra Whack, and Donald Glover, who also starred in 2019’s Lion King reboot, as the voice of Simba.

Specifically, the new visual album “reimagines the lessons of The Lion King for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns,” according to a press release, which also suggests that the film will feature some of the album’s collaborators, as well as other guest appearances.

A teaser trailer for Black Is King is currently available to watch on Beyoncé’s website.

Previously, individual visuals for The Gift have included videos for the tracks “Spirit” and “Bigger”, both featuring Blue Ivy Carter. Beyoncé also released an hour-long documentary on the making of the album back in 2019.
