Arca’s new album, KiCk i, is one of the year’s best. The album features collaborations with some banner names (Björk, Rosalía, Shygirl, and SOPHIE all appear on the record), but it’s Alejandra Ghersi’s avant-garde production and lyrics about identity and genderfluidity that make the album unique. The music is as inventive as anything she’s put out before, but this time draws out influences from club, rap, reggaeton, and pop music, fusing disparate ideas in a way that recalls the everything-goes attitude of the GHE20G0TH1K parties that Arca came up through.
Elsewhere this week, HAIM release their long-awaited Women in Music Pt. III album, and Daniel Avery surprise drops his third record, Love + Light. Take a listen below.
