Lana Del Rey says her new album is called Chemtrails Over the Country Club

She revealed the title during an Instagram Live video, in which she also discussed her recent controversial comments about double standards in music

Lana Del Rey has said that her next album will be titled Chemtrails Over the Country Club.

The musician confirmed the album title while speaking during a six-minute Instagram Live, Stereogum reports. During the broadcast, Del Rey also praised former Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson, and discussed FKA twigs’s pole dancing in relation to the controversial Instagram post that she made last week.

Last week, Del Rey posted on Instagram that she was frustrated with the subject matter of her songs being criticised, writing, “Now that Doja Cat, Ariana, Camila, Cardi B, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé have had number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, fucking, cheating etc – can I please go back to singing about being embodied, feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect, or dancing for money – or whatever I want – without being crucified or saying that I’m glamorising abuse??????”

At the end of the post, she casually revealed that her new album would be out on September 5, but this information was overshadowed by criticism from some social media users and comment writers, who said the post was racist given Del Rey’s comparisons with mostly WoC musicians her use of her phrase “there has to be a place in feminism for women who look and act like me”. Del Rey defended the post, saying this was a complete misinterpretation of the point she was trying to make.

She used this most recent Instagram Live to return to the subject. “I don’t wanna beat a dead horse and I don’t wanna go on and on about this post,” Del Rey says. “I just think it’s sad that the women I mentioned, whether they sing about getting money or whatever, the same stuff that I’ve been singing about, chronicling for 13 years. That’s why I’m in that echelon. Yes, they are my friends and peers and contemporaries. The difference is when I get on the pole people call me a whore, but when twigs gets on the pole it’s art.”

Where her last post buried the September release date, this new transmission similarly buries the Chemtrails Over the Country Club album title among discussions of Del Rey’s initial post, FKA twigs’s pole-dancing, and why she agrees with Marianne Williamson on the necessity of reparations. The whole thing is on IGTV – watch it below.
