Watch Yeah Yeah Yeahs perform ‘Phenomena’ from quarantine

Karen O’s closet has a smoke machine and strobe lights, apparently

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, most musicians have found themselves unable to perform in front of their fans, with festivals cancelled and shows pushed back due to social distancing measures.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, however, seem to have found a workaround (at least for now). Earlier today (May 24) Karen O shared a performance of “Phenomena” – a track on the band’s 2006 sophomore album, Show Your Bones – from her closet.

Although it’s obviously no replacement for the real thing, the mini “show” is about as theatrical as it can get inside a closet, complete with a smoke machine and strobe lights. Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner also takes part in the performance via laptop.

Watch below. You can also revisit Karen O talking about last year’s solo album in her 2019 interview with Dazed.
