Yesterday (April 19), Madley Croft played a lockdown set on Instagram Live, where she performed The xx’s “Angels” and “Brave for You”, covers of Rui Da Silva’s “Touch Me” and Silk City and Dua Lipa’s “Electricity” (which she was a co-writer on), and a new song of her own, reportedly titled “Weightless”. Speaking to fans on the stream, Madley Croft said that “for the past couple years I’ve been writing a lot of songs for other people, writing a lot of songs for myself”, NME reports. She added: “I ended up with all these songs so I’m going to release a solo album under my name. It’s just going to be under Romy. I’m hopefully going to be releasing it soon. I have loads of songs and I feel excited to try something new.” She said that the album would be “more upbeat” than what’s usually associated with The xx, taking influence from “club classics – Ibiza house, trance music, stuff that you can really dance to but also sing along to. What I realised was a lot of those club classics are big songs as well as just being fun to dance to.” She also explained that The xx are still together, but “we are a bit slow at putting out music... we take our time so thank you for your patience because I know it’s a bit annoying.” The band’s last album was I See You in 2017. Recently, bandmate Jamie xx released a new single, “Idontknow”. Watch a clip from Romy Madley Croft’s stream below. Romy hizo live; cantó Angels, Weightless ?
