You need to hear Lana Del Rey’s cover of Ariana Grande right now

Uhhhhh so good

She just dropped her latest album Norman Fucking Rockwell! about a week ago, and Lana Del Rey’s been riding the waves of critical acclaim for her expansive and complex record, all while reportedly already working on her next one.

The musician has taken to the BBC1 Live Lounge to perform a cover of pop peer Ariana Grande’s “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored” and her own single “Doin Time”, a chilled-out version of Sublime’s original tune that appears on her album.

The “resplendent” Grande cover is suitably Rey-ified and reworked into something akin to a modern Massive Attack or Portishead track, backed up with downtempo breakbeat drums and looping synths.

Speaking to Clara Amfo in the studio, she said of the Ari pick: “I thought about sending her a screenshot of a list of preferred covers I was sent, which had about seven of her songs on it, so she wouldn’t just think I was a mega-fan.”

A solid Grande fan and mutual mate, Del Rey previously covered “Pete Davidson” on her Instagram Stories.

You can watch the full performance linked below.
