Megan Thee Stallion is very smartly trademarking ‘Hot Girl Summer’

Hot Girl Fall, Hot Girl Winter, and Hot Girl Spring better be on the Texas rapper’s agenda too

It’s a state of mind and life we’re all trying to live by, and now Megan Thee Stallion has officially undertaken the task of trademarking her seemingly ubiquitous catchphrase ‘Hot Girl Summer’.

The phrase went viral all thanks to her fanbase, affectionately known as Hotties, who were quick to integrate it into their seasonal vocabulary. Splashed across her 2018 album Fever’s cover art, a line reads: “She’s thee HOT GIRL and she’s bringing THEE HEAT”, with her tune “Cash Shit” asserting this is “real hot girl shit”. On her socials, Meg is known as ‘Hot Girl Meg’, so the rapper is out here promoting a consistently fire brand. The hashtag #hotgirlsummer has been used more than 100,000 times over on Instagram. The Tina Snow rapper herself describes it as anyone who is “unapologetically them, having a good ass time. You know, just a bad bitch” – a sentiment we can very much get behind. It’s inclusive too, according to Meg, and transcends gender or any identity. It might bring us its own soundtrack too – “I feel like it’s only right I drop a hot girl summer song before the summer is over,” Meg previously tweeted.

According to Billboard, the trademark was filed on July 10. If approved, it will cover merch for products like t-shirts and hoodies. Brands like Maybelline, Wendy’s, and Forever 21 have already capitalised on the phrase because nothing is sacred, and they’d become liable.

After confirming the process via Twitter to a fan, we might just see a range of Stalli Hot Girl Summer-emblazoned merch dropped.

Now, Meg just has to wait for the trademark to be approved. It doesn’t always go the way of the artist though – Cardi B attempted to trademark her infamous “Okurrr”, but was subsequently denied.

While most people are jumping on the Hot Girl Summer agenda to celebrate self-love and body confidence, others are tapping into some stinging self-depracation. Can I live my Hot Girl Summer being sweaty and sandwiched between other morning commuters on the Tube, or when I’ve got a fiver in my current account?

Anyway, let’s hope the Texas rapper is thinking wisely here, and trademarking Hot Girl Fall, Hot Girl Winter, and Hot Girl Spring too.
