Announced earlier this month, the album is Lacy’s first substantial release since his solo EP, Steve Lacy’s Demo, in 2017, although he’s since been busy as a songwriter and producer, working with Solange and Vampire Weekend, as well as his role in The Internet. Not a bad resumé, considering his age – yesterday was still just his 21st birthday. Apollo XXI was recorded in Lacy’s sister’s bedroom while she was in college, and features collaborations with DAISY and Amandla Stenberg, the latter of whom gets a track named after her, “Amandla’s Interlude”. It also features “Outro Freestyle”, which recently received a music video co-starring Abra. Listen to Apollo XXI below.
