Rihanna has officially confirmed that she’s working on a new reggae album. She lowkey hinted that the album would be released in 2019 in the comments section of an Instagram post last year, and suggested that she wanted to create some reggae tunes in her previous cover story for Vogue. Now, in an interview with Dazed100-er Jeremy O Harris for T magazine, the artist and mogul has confirmed that it’s all in the works. When Harris surprisingly responded: “You are?” and asked if RiRi would be collaborating with Lady Gaga or her ex Drake, the pop star said: “Not on this album, that’s for sure.” “It’s not in the books right now, but I’m not against it,” she said about Gaga. Despite confirming that she is working on a new album, Rihanna is still unsure about its name and release date. “So far it’s just been R9, thanks to the Navy,” Rih said, as her fans have been hungrily waiting for this album since she released ANTI in 2016. Claiming that she’s been haunted with fans saying “R9, R9, when is R9 coming out?”, the star said: “How will I accept another name after that’s been burned into my skull?” When asked about her fave album across her oeuvre, she added: “I don’t know what my favourite album is – I’m sure if I put all my favourite songs together, it would be a really sick album. Maybe I should do that one day,” RiRi teased. Fenty Greatest Hits Vol. 1? Sold. That’s about as much information as you can get from Rihanna about her new album right now, so I guess we will just have to sit patiently and wait for its release – and we will be waiting.
