The singer is pretty much synonymous, now, with the otherworldly yet nature-inspired aesthetic she’s made her own (from her new Cornucopia production to Micol Ragni’s iconic “vagina dress”). And that aesthetic is dutifully adhered to in her new video for “Tabula Rasa”. It’s been a while since “Tabula Rasa” was actually released, in song form, as a track on the 2017 album Utopia. The video, though, was worth the wait. Created by the artist Tobias Gremmler – whose surreal digital artworks are a perfect fit – the “Tabula Rasa” visuals see Björk’s face superimposed onto a shifting, humanoid figure. Over her unmistakable vocals, this figure undergoes a series of metamorphoses, part-Björk-part-flower, then part-Björk-part-sea-anemone, then many Björks, and so on. “When creating the video, I was deeply inspired by the music and lyrics of Tabula Rasa,” says Gremmler, in a statement. “The visual transformation of Björk into faun-like flowers and mountainous landscapes embodies the utopian concept of a harmonious coexistence between nature and human based on empathy.” What more could you want?
