Still from J Hus’s “Bouff Daddy”

J Hus joined Drake onstage on his release from prison

After being jailed last December for carrying a knife

A major figure in the UK’s afroswing (or afropop) movement, J Hus was jailed back in December 2018, for carrying a knife near a shopping centre in East London. The conviction – which was just another incident showing the difficult relationship between the police and London’s music scene – originally came with an eight month jail sentence, but it seems Hus has been let out early.

We know this because last night (April 5) the “Bouff Daddy” rapper actually turned up onstage in the middle of Drake’s six-night run of shows at London’s O2 Arena.

Together, the two performed J Hus’s first top ten single, “Did You See,” with Drake taking a back seat to let the UK artist do his thing.

Of course, this isn’t actually Drake’s first interaction with the UK music scene. Back in 2016 he actually signed to Skepta and JME’s grime label, Boy Better Know, and more recently he’s been working on the British TV series Top Boy.
