Korean boyband BTS became the stand-out pop band of the year, becoming the first K-Pop band to be nominated for a Grammy Award and address the United Nations. This, all in one year of historic achievement.
In an added sign of success, and in the vibe of all truly successful bands, one of the band’s members, Jimin, has released a surprise solo track. “Promise” came out just after midnight in Seoul on December 31.
As pointed out by NME, Jimin shared a tweet on the BTS Twitter account, saying: “Everyone, you’ve been waiting long for a long time, yes? I have finally dropped my self-produced track. This is a song for myself but this is also a song for you guys. This is my first time, so it’s a bit raw, but please listen to it. Thank you ARMYs for having waited patiently.”
“Promise” was produced by BTS producer Slow Rabbit, according to the track’s Soundcloud page, while the lyrics are by Jimin and his bandmate and BTS leader RM.
Jimin isn’t the only BTS member to put out work single-handedly. RM, Hope and Suga have shared solo mixtapes, while V and Jin contributed to the soundtrack of South Korean TV series Hwarang without the rest of the band. Jimin also released a cover of Justin Bieber’s “Mistletoe” with the 2014 track “Christmas Day” with BTS singer and producer Jungkook.
“Promise” is available for free download on the boyband’s Soundcloud page and you can listen below.
